Protected machines

Machines subscribed to this UPS for clean shutdown, checked every minute. A machine shown as GONE will not shut down cleanly if the power fails. Rename with ✎ and set each machine's role; services are auto-detected from the UPS connection. What the roles and tags mean is in the reference below. Roles organize the panel today and will drive shutdown timing once that's configured.

Raw readings for your own analysis. Over 14 days the export switches to 5-minute averages — a day of raw samples is 8,640 rows.

Tested automatically once a month. A pass means the battery held its charge and backup time under real load — a worn battery reads full at rest and collapses the moment it's asked to work. A pass doesn't prove it can carry a long outage.

Every power cut is a free full-load capacity test — the truest battery evidence there is, better than any deliberate ten-second check. Test discharges are labelled so they can't pad the outage history.

The UPS can't report its battery's age — it has no date field. Set the date the pack went into service. Sealed lead-acid typically lasts 3 to 5 years, and a pack often sits in a warehouse for months before that, so its real age may exceed its time in service.

A weekly "monitoring is alive" push proves the whole alert path. If it stops arriving on your phone, alerting is broken — that absence is the only signal, because no server can see a notification being suppressed on the device.

A whole-house power cut usually takes the internet with it, so this dashboard cannot warn you about the outage that matters most — it goes down with everything else. The watchdog is a small service somewhere else that expects a check-in from here every few minutes and tells you when they stop.

It is told nothing but that this site is alive — no readings, no history, no events — and it has no way to send anything back: nothing in this connection can change a setting or run a command here. If it goes away, everything on this page and the clean shutdown carry on exactly as they are.

Alerts travel over your home internet. A power cut that also takes down your modem and router means nothing can be sent until they're back. If that matters, plug the modem and router into the UPS too.

The UPS's own buzzer. It's the only warning that still works when an outage takes your modem down with it, so alerts can't leave the house. Mute silences the current alarm without switching it off for next time.

These change how the UPS protects the server — when it switches to battery, and when it tells the server to shut down. Changing one needs a code emailed to you, so a stolen sign-in alone can't alter them.

This stops someone with a stolen session from changing your protection settings. It cannot stop someone who has taken over the server itself, since the mail credentials live there too.

A full discharge rather than the monthly ten-second check. It's the only way to truly measure capacity — and it wears the pack, takes the load down to the battery for the whole run, and can drop your equipment if the battery is weak. Needs an emailed code.
